Losing Sleep Over Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are a problem you need to address before a complete infestation happens. Once they are in your house, they can be quite difficult to get rid of. But, there are some steps you can take to make sure they do not make it that far. Here are some tips you can use to make sure bed bugs stay far away from your home.

Cover Your Power Outlets

Bed bugs will use power outlets to travel from room to room and extend their infestation to other areas of a house. Simply covering the outlets will remove this possibility so you can identify them and get rid of them sooner.

Put Your Clothing in Vacuum-Sealed Bags

Separate your clothing by season and place anything you will not be wearing for a while in vacuum-sealed bags. That way they will not attract bugs to come in from the outside and make their home in them.

Check Your Pets

Bed bugs can make it into your home on the backs of your pets. So, check your pets for evidence of pests before you allow them back inside the house. Also, in case you missed anything on your favorite four-legged friends, check the pets’ bedding for evidence of bed bugs and wash the bedding in hot water frequently, just in case.

Reduce Your Clutter

Bed bugs love to hide in clutter. So, keeping your house neat and organized will reduce the chances of bed bugs finding a place to hide in your home. Start with clutter you have by the walls in your house and work your way to the center of the rooms. Also, do not forget to clean the clutter out of the garage, especially if it is attached to the house.

Cover Your Mattress

Cover your mattress and box spring with encasements that keep bed bugs at bay. Make sure you get the kind that has zippers and use the covers as a proactive method. They will protect your mattress from getting infested, but will not get rid of an infestation that is already there.

Make Your Home Bug-Proof

Bed bugs can get in through the smallest of spaces. So, eliminating any spaces they can fit through is a great way to make sure your home isn’t invaded. Check your walls for any cracks and seal them up with a caulk gun. Check the outside for any cracks that need to be sealed as well. Also, inspect your window and door screens. If you see any holes, either repair them or replace the entire screen.

There are no foolproof measures for stopping bed bugs, so it is wise to call in an exterminator if you are at risk for bed bugs or suspect that you have them in your home. If you want to make sure your home is safe from Bed Bugs, give Pest Bear a call to schedule an appointment.
